First-gen DROID to get Froyo before DROID X
Good News early adopters - According to a leaked picture of an internal Verizon communication, the "Original" DROID will be receiving the Android 2.2 upgrade (Froyo) and all the goodness that comes with it, like speedier processing and flash support, before DROID X owners get to install the upgrade. The original DROID should end up with the update in late July. The DROID X will be getting Android 2.2 late August. Both updates are scheduled to be done OTA, similar to the way original DROID owners received the Androids 2.1 upgrade.

New Verizon Droid on the horizon (sooner than we thought)
Verizon’s official Droid website is now showing the Droid X as “coming soon.” The site mentions that the Droid X has a 4.3″ display, 720p display and HDMI output, and also allows potential customers to enter in their email address to get further details about the phone. Looks pretty good to us. Anyone know anything more out there?

The weeks best Apps
doubleTwist:
It works best if you sync your music and videos with doubleTwist's desktop app, but even if you don't, the doubleTwist player's a worthy replacement for the stock Android music player for aesthetic reasons alone. Actually, that's the main reason if you're not straight-up syncing for iTunes-y goodness—it functions nearly the same as the Android default, with a similar structure and layout. It'll 10x better when it has a widget. Still, I'd grab it while it's free.
DSI: Miami:
Jason, on his favorite new Android app ever:
Do you often pretend you're a pale and freckled middle-aged man, throwing out one-liners before someone yells YEEEEEAAAAHHH!!! and a guitar riff plays? This app is the only thing you need to complete the experience. YEAAAAHHHHH!!!!
It's free.
Layar 3.5:
The big feature in Layer 3.5, and what makes it worth noting—besides the fact it's still possibly the best augmented reality app around—is the new 'stream' feature, which pulls up the most interesting augmented reality stuff around you automatically, without having to manually search for something. Soon, it'll think for us.
HomePipe:
It'll be obsoleted by Google's own streaming service in the future, but for now HomePipe is probably the easiest way to stream your iTunes library to your phone. It'll let you peep just about at any other file, too. It's free, but requires a HomePipe account.
Got Audible audiobooks? Now you can listen to them on Android. The free app is in beta, but it's decently featured with library management, full download powers (books are stored on your SD card) and the ability to listen to books in the background. You have to sign up for the Google Group, but just say you don't want emails and you're good to go.
