Manually update your DROID to Android 2.1

So you are all stoked that the OTA is finally coming out but havent received your notification yet?  Getting antsy?  Well if you have the guts, and confidence, wander over to phonearena.com where they outline the steps to update your Droid to 2.1   There are plenty of warnings that they aren't responsible and recommend that if you dont know what you are doing, you should probably sit tight.  Amen to that.

2.1 is coming!!, 2.1 is coming!!

Seems like its really really happening this time.  A copy of an email purported to be from Verizon is making its way around the internet that 2.1 is starting to be rolled out today to Droid owners.  1,000 at noon, 9,000 more by midnight and then they will wait 24 hours before starting the real rollout which will be 200,000 a day until everyone gets it. 

Google Gesture Search:

Voice Search might be the future, but Google's Gesture Search is pret-tay damn spiffy. A universal search app that crawls your contacts, apps, bookmarks and music, you just draw the letters of the word you're looking for, and it starts pulling up results. Thoroughly accurate while I was messing around with it. I wish it had a homescreen widget, so I could start drawing without firing up the app.

Android 2.1 - Where are you? *****UPDATE****

Not two minutes go by and a reader let me know that there has been an update to the 2.1 situation.  Motorola posted on its Facebook page that the 2.1 "experience" has to be perfect before they roll it out and that they are working on it.  What frightens me is that they dont even throw out a conceptual time frame, like we expect something next week, next month or the second half of the year.....ugh

"We know you guys are anxiously awaiting the upgrade from 2.0 to 2.1. Ultimately, we want to ensure you have the best possible experience on your device; as a result, the rollout is taking longer than expected. Though we don't have the new deployment date to share just yet, we do promise we are working to get you updated information and will relay it as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience. We appreciate it"

Android 2.1 - Where are you?

I have been trying to be patient, really I have, but at this point Q1 ends in a few days and there hasnt been any news from the big V in some time.  I am still holding out hope that this will occur as announced, boards all over are talking about 2.1 rolling out to android devices all over the world, but not here in V land.  Any one heard anything new?
