Droid Protection

We never used to think about firewalls, viruses and hacks when we had dumb phones but now we are living in a world where many of us carry a Smartphone, basically a computer in our pocket. Some of these computers are locked and there isn't much worry about downloading something bad into the phone but those of us that are now carrying certain phones, like the Droid, can download all sorts of stuff off the net, without anyone watching over it. Sounds like only a matter of time until people start trying to hack our phones. It may be slow now but as we start using our "pocket computers" there will be more and more threats to our phones. Lookout is one company that has come out with an early version of an "all in one" protection package that I have downloaded and like. It offers a constant virus scan, lost phone locating on a map or even a way to have your phone scream at you, regardless of its settings (emitting a very loud sound). And just in case you really do lose your phone, or it crashes, you can opt to have your contacts, photos, etc backed up and accessed via their secure website so that you can download them onto your new phone.




So far I like it and haven't suffered any bad side effects. There have been some reviews that talked about the software running down their battery. I don't know about you but ever since I had the OTA update my battery usage has improved dramatically and I haven't seen any difference when running Lookout in the background.
